SOCIAL CARE AT HOME: VALENTINA’S STORY
| 05.02.2025Valentina Osoianu grew up in a humble rural family. Life was never easy for her, but she always had an unbreakable spirit. At just 18, she married a young man from a neighboring village, and together, they dreamed of building a better future. With hard work and dedication, they built a home, raised two wonderful children, and created a loving family.
Blessed with a daughter and a son, Valentina and her husband taught them the values of love, unity, and perseverance. The children grew up helping in the household and garden, learning the importance of hard work. Despite many hardships, Valentina and her husband ensured their children received a good education and the support needed to follow their dreams. They gave them wings to fly and the courage to become whatever they wished.
Looking back on her life, Valentina, now in her seventies, reflects with pride and emotion. “I have overcome so many struggles, experienced so many fulfilling moments, and every wrinkle on my face tells the story of a life lived with dignity.” Her memories are filled with nostalgia but also pride for all she has achieved. The burdens of life were heavy, but the love of her family and the values she passed down gave her the strength to endure.
Today, when her children and grandchildren gather around her table, she shares stories of the past. She firmly believes that true joy isn’t measured in material wealth but in the lessons passed from generation to generation—lessons of resilience, honesty, and the power of hard work.
However, in 1992, Valentina faced one of her biggest hardships. Her husband passed away suddenly, leaving her alone with all responsibilities. With her children grown and living far away, she had to manage everything by herself. Over the years, her health deteriorated, and after undergoing surgery on both legs, mobility became a major challenge. Simple daily tasks, like going to the market or bringing in firewood, turned into overwhelming struggles. “Winters were the hardest,” she recalls, “having to fetch wood for heating or go to the pharmacy for medicine was almost impossible.”
Six years ago, Valentina heard about CASMED from her village’s local administration. From that moment, her life took a positive turn. Before, even fetching water was a daunting task, as the well was far from her home. Now, thanks to regular visits from a caregiver, she receives essential support. She gets help with shopping, paying bills, cleaning, and maintaining her household. But beyond the practical assistance, the greatest gift has been companionship. No longer feeling isolated, she has found comfort in meaningful conversations and emotional support.
Valentina speaks with gratitude about her caregiver, who has not only helped her organize her home to make daily tasks easier but has also taken care of her beloved garden, planting and tending to her flowers. These simple yet heartfelt gestures have brought her immense joy and a renewed sense of hope.
“It’s wonderful to know that you’re not alone and that there are people who genuinely want to help,” she says with a warm smile. “Without my caregiver, my life would have been much harder.”
Her story is a reminder that kindness and compassion can transform lives. Through CASMED, she has found not only help but also a sense of belonging and dignity. She hopes that others who are struggling will find the courage to seek support, knowing that no one should have to face life’s challenges alone.
